How to make money eating pizza.

steps to making money eating pizza.

Hello everyone, my name is shane cassady and I recently took the pointers pizza challenge. I have learned a lot over the past few weeks on how to make money eating pizza. There is a pizza shop in Saint Louis that offers a $500.00 reward if you can eat their 28 inch 12 pound pizza. You have to call them in advance and the rules are that you get to have two people eat the pizza at the same time and you only get one hour to do it in. You are allowed to drink as much as you want, but you have to stay in the lobby while eating it. There are no bathroom breaks, so be sure to go before you start eating. You get to chose between eating 2 meat toppings or 4 veggie toppings. My partner and I decided to eat the 2 meat. I can tell you right off the bat that it is not a good idea to order the sausage. They pile it on and it makes it very difficult to eat. My suggestion would be to order a ham and pepperoni. This is a monster pizza and can be done. I have been told that only 16 people so far have managed to eat the beast. I would suggest a good excersize program before you start. I would also recommend eating lettuce to help stretch your stomach. Another helpful hint is to soak the crust in water before you eat it. They do not allow you to have a glass of water, but you can get a bottle of water and hold it in your mouth before chewing. The hardest thing about the challenge is getting over the repetitive taste. I would recommend eating it as quickly as possible. It takes your stomach 20 to 30 minutes to tell your mind that you are full so the quicker the better. I know that this has been done in 14 minutes by a professional eating team. I hope this helps you and I am open to any questions that you might have. Be sure to come back often as I will be answering questions and adding some pictures to help you out as well. I will look forward to hearing from you soon.

12 pounds of pizza would feed a village in a 3rd world country - any left overs???

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

how true how true Victoria. 12 pounds of pizza is definately a lot of food. I wish there were a program to send the left overs to a 3rd world country or even locally as far as that goes. Hopefully if people will follow my advise there will not be any left overs and people will be $500.00 richer. Maybe with the $500.00 they could send it to a 3rd world country and feed even more. Thanks for your comment.

I've only been to St. Louis once, but liked it very much. A 12-pound pizza might be good after driving for 12 hours to get there! LOL

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Hi Patty. If you didn't want to try and eat the pizza for the Challenge, you can always just buy one and eat at your own pace. They are good and the sauce they use is very good.

Shane, I was bouncing around hubpages and saw your title. How could I not click through? Excellent title (pizza and makin' money). I enjoyed reading your hub. I would love to see a picture of this 12 pound pizza! You also didn't say if you finished the pizza or not? If I lived a little closer (I live in California) I'd love to try!

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

I should have a picture for you up soon. My friend and I fell a little short, but do plan on going back and taking a second shot at it. With some new information I have learned on how to expand my stomach, I think we can finish it off. Thanks for your comment.

Shane, I like your attitude. I'll be rooting for you. I just hope I can make it to St Louis some day and take a crack at one of those bad boy pizzas!

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

It is quite a fun experience. Nothing like getting paid to eat pizza and watching a Saint Louis Cardinals game.

compu-smart profile image

The title sure sounds appealing! but the reality not so!!

Who pays for the Pizza if you cant eat it and how much is it?

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Hi compu-smart, you have to pay for the pizza if you don't eat it. The total is only $48.00 and it is really good pizza. Not bad for a pizza that will more than feed two people. My friend and I didn't eat dinner that day either, so for $48.00 we had lunch and supper. Not bad for two people. If you do eat the pizza however the company pays for your pizza plus pays you $500.00

CarpetDiem profile image

CarpetDiem 4 years ago

Assuming you have two people eating, $24 for 6 pounds of good pizza ($4/lb) sounds reasonable. Plus the bonus if you eat it all - its free and you get $250 (your share of $500). I like it! I just wish one of our local pizza joints would do the same deal. By the way, did you time out at the one hour mark or did you just stop, and how did you feel afterwards?

compu-smart profile image

compu-smart 4 years ago

Wow!! Thanks for clearing that up for me!!....Its Pretty reasonable and sounds like fun!!

I like your observation about how the 500.00 could be sent to third world countries to help to feed others. This would be a great undertaking!

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

My friend and I actually stopped before our hour was up. We took a took a good look at the pizza and realized that it just wasn't worth making ourselves sick over it. We didn't prepare right to handle the big load. I should have some pictures up here tonight and you can see our progression. As the pictures will show, you should not pick sausage as one of your two toppings. In answer to your question, we felt really good and got to enjoy the Saint Louis Cardinal game. They beat the cubs that night in over time.

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

It was very fun, and I appriciate your comment of the third world countries. I was just talking with Chef Jeff yesterday about how sad it is that we can't do more and that even in the face of a crisis like a cyclone we were not allowed to even help. I do believe that is changing though. Thanks for your comment.

hey Shane, I would assume that if you don't finish, you get to keep the left overs? Did you eat them the next day, or had you had enough pizza for a while? Did you ever eat them? I love left-over pizza for breakfast and always order a larger pizza(s) than my family needs to be sure there will be left-overs. Although I love pizza then next day for breakfast, I'm not sure how I'd feel if I ate 4 or 5 pounds of it the night before...

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

We didn't take the left overs with us, however they did ask us if we wanted a box to take them. We didn't want to leave it in the car while we were at the game. I am with you on left over pizza though. I love it myself. I like to sprinkle a little water on top of the pizza and then heat it up in the microwave. This melts the cheese better.

RUTHIE17 4 years ago

Shane, I can't believe you did this!! Must really be a guy thing!! Have you entered any of the eating contests that are around? I find it really strange that the winners of those things are turning out to be skinny little people who look like they couldn't eat more than a small kid!! Must be "little bitty body---great big tummy"!. LOL

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

I haven't entered any other eating contests, but couldn't resist the whole pizza eating thing. I love pizza and think that given enough training, I could go back and finish it off. My friend and I are thinking of doing it again sometime.

Congrats on your pizza win! I am amazed by your skill! Sure beats donating plasma! There's a steak restaurant in Amarillo Texas that runs a similar promotion. I've never been brave enough to try it myself. Maybe after I lose the 12 lbs. or so after I have my baby....

I have heard of that steak place. Have you ever seen the great outdoors? I love it when John Candy eats the whole thing. I hurt just watching him.

you are most welcome for the pics. Remember that you are allowed one team mate, so I would recommend picking someone that can eat a lot. I had a good partner, but I just couldn't eat my half.

In The Doghouse 4 years ago

Wow, that looks like a really good pizza, thick crust, a lot of sausage, definitely not what you would want in an eating challenge though! It sounds like it was totally fun to try and do. In college I worked at a restaurant called Farrells Ice Cream Parlor and we had an ice cream creation that we awarded simply a ribbon if you finished eating it. It was called "The Trough", appropriately named. Unbelieveable enough people took the challenge just for the stupid ribbon, I can imagine how many people try to do the $500 pizza challenge, good marketing huh? Loved the pictures!

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Hi in the doghouse. Thanks for you comment. I like ice cream and you are right it is amazing what people will do for something silly. I talked to the owner of the restaurant when I was there and he told me that they got the idea from the hot dog eating contest. He saw how it was gaining popularity and said that he and his brother came up with the whole idea. Their pizza oven was huge. I got to meet both owners and they are very nice guys.

Sorry, but I have to admit, I'm a bit disgusted. I love pizza and I love a challenge, but this is just a prime example of the glutony, excess and waste in this country.

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Thanks for your comment. Definately not something I would want to try everyday.

BBK 4 years ago

Hey Shane this is Dana, you probably remember me from CLF. Hey, the only reason you didn't finish the pizza is because you didn't invite me! If you remember me you'll know that I was the big black guy with an appetite! I know that i could've got the $500.

Hey Dana, Of course I remember you. Have you been playing any Risk lately? Send me an email sometime and we can catch up.

Wow, Shane! Even if you got half way thru that, you're a brave man. There would be no point to me even trying, but a great way to make a few bucks for the big eaters.

Thanks for the feedback Shirley. It definately isn't a task for everyone.

There's a similar promotion in my area. It involves a 2 pound ham sandwich and a $1000 prize, which has remained unclaimed for many years.

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

only 2 pounds? Why would that be so hard? I would like to try that. How much time do you get to eat it?

rmr profile image

rmr 4 years ago

The trick is that you have to eay three of them! I believe you have 1 hour to finish.

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Not sure where the three is coming from? I am guessing your reasoning is that if you can eat 3 than it will be easy to eat one lol. You are correct in that you get one hour for the two of you to eat the pizza.

Great pictures.  If I lived in St. Louis, I'd buy that pizza for a party, so long as more than two people showed up!  I think I'd also do without the sausage.

I just read your latest hub about your trip to the doctor.  Does this mean you won't be trying the pizza challenge again?

Regards, Sally

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 4 years ago

Thanks Sally for taking the time to read my hub. It doesn't look like I will be taking the challenge again anytime soon, but who know's if I can get myself back into shape I sure would love to try it again and win. Health first though.

Roadrunner 3 years ago

Hey Drummer boy, we have a place here in Denver called beau jo's pizza that has a similar contest. The pizza is much smaller in diameter but is 12-14 lbs and is more of a deep dish style. Anyway I am really serious about entering it and wanted to see if you could offer any advice as to winning. The rules are the same as yours, however I guess only 2 people have ever done it. The prize is only $100, but I just want bragging rights. I suppose if I win, I could travel to St Louis and try your place. I'd have to grab some white castles while I'm there!!

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 3 years ago

Hi Roadrunner. I have heard of a lot of different ways to prepair. One of my latest things is exercising regularly and hard. This will build up your appetite. I have also heard of eating lettuce and cabbage to stretch your stomach.

Pizza Man 2 years ago

So 2 people get to eat this and you get one hour right? Do they give each person $500.00 or do you have to split that?

drummer boy profile image

drummer boy Hub Author 2 years ago

Yep, you are allowed a 2 person team and if successful the team will receive $500.00 so each person gets $250.00 not bad for just eating pizza if I do say so myself.

I love the Presto Pizzazz Pizza Oven. For one thing, by crisping the topping, it helps take away the freezer burnt taste. For another thing, it's just pretty darn convenient.
