Facebook and wasted time

A few years ago I started a facebook account on a recommendation from a friend. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not but once I got started I liked it much better than My Space.

Facebook was not filled with all of the advertisements and junk that comes with myspace. I liked facebook better because you seem to talk to more real people.

As years have gone by I have spent more and more time on facebook. I have been able to advertise my DJ and Photography business and connect with friends and family that I have not been able to talk to in years. People have asked me if I would DJ their weddings and I have been able to use facebook to communicate with them as well.

This has helped my business and I am not sure why that would be illegal. When you talk to someone, one of the things you usually talk about is how work is going.

I have taken the time to download several pictures and have even gotten several people to join facebook as well.

Today "Feb. 22 2010" out of no where I get a message when I try to log into my facebook account that says

Account Disabled

I clicked on the link and it took me to some questions and it still didn't explain why I have been canceled.

At this point I am starting to get really upset. All that I am left with is the fact that I have been canceled. I have not been given any kind of warning or nothing. I have not shown nude pictures or used profanity. I have no clue why they would just shut me down out of the blue.

I may have done something wrong but to the best of my knowledge I have not done anything wrong or illegal.

I have mentioned my DJ and Photography business when people have asked me about it and even promoted it which I just found out is not allowed, however people promote their business on there all of the time.

The funny thing is that they have a section where you can invite people to events which allows you to promote your business and if this is why they have canceled me I am going to be really confused. If you ask me that is sending a really mixed signal.

Have any of you ever had this kind of thing happen to you?

I am open to suggestions, I have already written them an email appealing the cancellation and here is a copy of the email.

To whom it may concern. My facebook account is not letting me log in today and I need to talk with some family and facebook has been the best way for me to do this. I have even gotten several people to sign up for facebook as a way to talk with me. I have gotten several friends, family and church members to join. Please consider me for reinstatement and let me know what I did wrong and I will no longer do it. Please, Please, Please and thank you. My information is listed below.

Here is my response to them and please let me know if any of you hub writers can give me some good information on this. Thanks

I have reviewed them and noticed that it talks about personal business. This is the only thing that I can think of that would have caused you to freeze my account. I have people ask me about my local DJ business a lot and I have used Facebook for that and updates but that is not the only thing I use facebook for, I also use it for personal use as well. I just had a girl ask me to stop sending friend requests which I am not sure how I even sent her so many, maybe this is why you froze me. I sent her a message letting her know that we must have a mutual friend that referred her to me and that I would not send her any more requests as I didn't even know who she was. I am not even sure that I sent her 6 requests like she mentioned. I get updates from businesses all of the time to go to their restaurant or special event they are holding, Is this a violation as well? I don't mind them sending them to me and that is what I have done as well. If this is illegal I will stop immediately. Thank you again for your consideration as I love using facebook and as before mentioned have brought several people to facebook.

Once again, they canceled my membership without me even knowing why. Don't you think they would at least give me a warning before canceling me?

Ok so it is day five and facebook finally contacts me and this is what they have to say.

Hi Shane,

One of Facebook's main priorities is the comfort and safety of our users. Your account was disabled because you engaged in behavior other users reported as harassing in nature.  It is a violation of Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities to harass users on the site, whether through unsolicited messages, friend requests, pokes or other features.  We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason.  This decision is final.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been on facebook for years and just because someone reported me as being offensive they closed my account and will not reactivate it and are unwilling to even talk with me about it.

Here is the email I sent to them in reply. Lets see how long it takes them to get back with me.

I can assure you that I have not harassed any user, I have been a long time facebook user and at least deserve a chance to explain myself. Haven't you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? I am the worship leader at my church and can not imagine who could have reported me as harassing them. I can give you a multitude of character witnesses on my behave if you need them. I can understand immediately closing someones account if they are a sex offender, using profanity, putting up nude or offensive images, making threats or something like that. I know what my actions have been on facebook and I in no way shape or form have said anything threatening to anyone. What are the charges that have been brought against me? I at least deserve to know that and to the extreme that it could have been. Have you talked to the person that reported me? What is their credibility?
I like facebook so much that I even put a link on my website to promote you. I have talked several friends and family into joining facebook as well.
Please give me a call or continue to converse with me through email as I would love to be up and running again soon. I have spent countless hours adding pictures and friends and family to my account profile not to mention time on yoville and things like that.
